Team History

Feger Racing's roots run deep, beginning with Jason's Grandpa, Ron "Red" Griffin. Grandpa Red began racing in Central Illinois around 1956 while sporting the number 25 on the side of his car. During this time, he enlisted in the Army to serve his country and was stationed in Germany. He met his bride Maria (known affectionately by all as Grandma) and returned stateside to Rolla, Missouri. Grandpa Red raced an old Ford for Kellings Garage while in Missouri. After 2 tours in Vietnam, he moved his family back to Bloomington, IL and continued to race for multiple teams. He raced for Don Erlenbush, Harold Rotramel, and Cleve Smith (Eric Smith's Dad). Cleve also funded Red's USAC cars, which was the predecessor to the ARCA series. Grandpa eventually retired his seatbelts, but he loved sharing his passion and love for the sport with Jason.

As a young boy, Jason was at the racetrack every weekend with Grandpa and Grandma and frequently visited driver's garages. During high school, Jason and his younger brother Austin went to crew for Billy Drake and gained valuable experience and knowledge on the road and in the garage.

Jason didn't want to just crew for a team, he wanted to drive. Grandpa Red supported this next step and made an agreement with Jason; He would buy Jason his first sportsman car ($500 in 1996) and the rest would be on Jason to fund. Jason experienced success in the Sportsman car over 5 seasons and eventually decided it was time for a super late model.

In 2002, Jason purchased his first used late model and motor and began chasing his dream. In 2008, he fulfilled his promise to Grandpa Red to compete for a track championship at Kamp Motor Speedway, Grandpa's favorite track. The team brought home the championship that same year.

Jason continues to live out his dream of being a full time race car driver across the country. The journey is not always easy for a small, family owned team, but the support from family, friends, sponsors, and fans has helped Feger Racing get to where we are today. It's taken hard work, grit and determination to continue to succeed in the world of racing and we are proud of the team's accomplishments. 2022 marked the 20th year in a super late model and we look forward to the seasons ahead.
